The Connolly Foundation is a community-based, non-profit research, education, and advocacy centre dedicated to fostering progressive social change. We seek to create a crucible for practicing ongoing progressive change, guided by the writings and ethos of James Connolly, the Foundation seeks to empower all people, but especially urban youth, to be builders of a true global community.
At a national level the foundation’s mission is to promote public dialogue on government policy, popular culture and race relations through a series of lectures and seminars. At a community level the foundation runs programs that seek to nurture and develop community based leadership, especially amongst the youth, as an avenue for the civic participation in the political, economic and the cultural life.
The Connolly Foundation will embark on a proactive, ‘change agency’ approach to designing and delivering structured programmes of activity that will meet the needs of Irish people enabling them to contribute at every level in Scottish society. This new approach is reflected in the organisation’s Vision, Mission and Values statements as well as its strategic goals and objectives.
The organisation will focus on work that will:
• promote citizenship and civic engagement
• challenge the barriers to economic equality
• promote human rights
• promote Irish culture and heritage
• promote religious and racial harmony
• research issues of health, poverty and education
• promote the health & well being of Irish people.
The organisation will achieve this by delivering a structured programme of activities that will build the capacity of people at the individual, family, organisation and community levels, enabling Irish people to play a full, equal and active role in Scottish society.
Structured programmes will include:
•
information & advice
•
